Dressage riding in combination with yoga
In 400 B.C the Greek General Xenophon wrote the first known treatise on horseman-ship. His premise was that whatever is forced and misunderstood can never be beautiful, and that gentleness and naturalness are the requisites for brilliancy and elegance in the horse.
This 'classical' riding underwent a renaissance in the seventeen hundreds with a man called de la Guérinière, who wrote his 'Ecole de Cavalerie' in 1733. In our times classical riding is practiced in its purity only in the Hofreitschule in Vienna, and in Spain and Portugal under the form of Doma Classica.
The Epona Yoga Studio offers the opportunity to take classical riding lessons with René Berger. René received his education in classical riding from the Portuguese riding master Pedro de Almeida. In 1987 René moved to Portugal, where he became a professional trainer at the national breeding centre of Lusitaner horses, under the guidance of Pedro de Almeida. He also followed various courses given by Joao Oliveira, the son of Nuno Oliveira, one of the most famous horse trainers of our times. Later on he prepared horses for dressage competitions under the guidance of Don Juan Matute, seven times Spanish dressage champion.
Presently René teaches at his centre 'Sebino Cavalli'. The Epona Yoga Studio in collaboration with Sebino Cavalli offers several possibilities for courses. For more information please contact Dona Holleman at info@donaholleman.com.
