The Epona Yoga Studio
According to legend, the name Soiano del Lago, which means Soiano of the lake, is derived from Latin 'Solis Ianua', which means 'Gate to the sun'. It is a small village on the south-west border of Lake Garda, about halfway between Venice and Milan, in the cosmopolitan and sophisticated area of Northern Italy, which attracts tourists from all over Europe. Soiano has been inhabited since pre-historic times, and has been home to several famous painters in the recent history of Italy. The village is part of the seven communities of the Valtenesi, which means the Valley of Athena. This may have something to do with the fact that in this region there existed a temple in Roman times dedicated to the Goddess Minerva, the Roman equivalent of Pallas Athena. Both Soiano del Lago and the Epona Yoga Studio face the sun as it rises over Lake Garda.
The Epona Yoga Studio stands in its own gardens in a quiet residential part of the village, and has a spectacular view over the lake and the pre-Alpine mountains.
Besides practising yoga one has ample opportunity to explore a region which is rich in natural beauty with possibilities for hiking, bicycling, motoring or boating. One can also go for a day outing to Venice (two hours by car), to Verona, the home town of Romeo and Juliet and famous for the opera in summer in the Roman Arena (one and a half hours by car), or take a boat ride across the lake to explore the other villages. For those who want to explore the local cuisine there are many excellent restaurants within walking distance of the Studio.
