Renato Turla: Harmonic Passages
Here you find two examples of Harmonic Passages out of the book. Follow the links and you get the whole sequences with pictures and text.
It could be objected that it is not easy to perform a sequence of movements in which balance plays a fundamental role! Usually, we find everything suitable to our nature easy, whereas, what has not been experienced yet is considered difficult. We will not discover the real and total nature of an asana until we do not carry it out. We can state that an action is "easy" or "difficult" only by practising and experiencing it.
When we have a dream, our psychic activity during the REM stage of the sleep creates a sequence of images or events. Their interpretation gives way to emotions, which do not depend on our will, given that a dream cannot be programmed. During the practice, we have to face and overcome some changing difficulties that, however, are constantly present. Our resulting psychic and physical transformation always goes with emotions. As far as we improve our skill in overcoming a problem connected to a pose and observe the harmonic movement which characterises a sequence of asanas, we understand that this harmony, such as it happens in dreams, perfectly shows itself as beauty. As it is not possible for someone else to experience what we feel during a dream or when we stand in front of a beautiful landscape, emotions coming from a harmonic practice are strictly personal The practitioner (or dreamer) is the only owner of such emotions. Practice, as well as dreams, should not be experienced as if it had a special aim (as its aim is inherent in it). Practice should be felt as the ability of creating emotions in a pure and light mind. Knowledge is reached when we try to interpret events by means of our feelings.
